In the summer Maehama is a wash with swimmers, windsurfers, scubadivers and sunbathers. It is indeed the center of Niijima oceanic recretion, and most main offices are situated in this area.
若郷で最も賑わう海岸で、新島で唯一黒い砂の海岸です。静かな一時を楽しみたい方にお勧めのスポットです。
Wakago Maehama Beach
It is the most popular beach in the Wakago district.
You can enjoy a relaxing break on this black-sand beach.
「昔、海が荒れて淡井浦に逃れていた漁船が、波もおさまったので出航しようと錨をまきあげようとしたが上がらない。漁夫の一人が潜ってみたら、錨の上に女が腰掛けていた・・・」こんな人魚伝説があるこの海岸は、流れが速くあまり海水浴に適していないので現在は遊泳禁止となっています。しかし、そのロケーションは目を見張るものがあります。観光スポットとしても是非一度訪れて見て下さい。
